The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
by Covey, Stephen
ISBN: 0743269519

>Rich with important and useful ideas on how life, relationship and leadership work, this book takes a bit of getting into. My sister told me to be sure to note that the reader ought not to be discouraged early on but to persevere. We are both avid readers and both found that we could only take this one in chunks. The reason for that is the density of the work. No fluff or filler here! Also it is a book that makes you stop and think, often!

Some of Covey’s most useful contributions are:

  • Looking at what is most important in life, work and relationships, and why.
  • His model of the circle of concern vs. circle of influence (which I talk about in the Life Skills book).
  • His concept of the emotional bank account.
  • The continuum from dependent, up through independent, up to interdependent. He shows how things work at each of these levels, and how quality of life in a state of interdependence is greatly to be desired.Covey doesn’t just spout opinions, he shows us how these things work: one of the great virtues of this book
