Facilitator Training

What Can I Do with It?

First, You Can Apply What You Have Learned in This Book

You can use these exercises and apply this information purely for your own benefit.  You can start a discussion group to read, study, and apply these principles.  You can use these techniques and exercises with other people, with their permission, of course.  I knew someone who became entranced with the Remedies in particular and when around town, started putting them to use.  One day she went to get her hair done.  She observed that her hairdresser looked a bit strained and asked what was wrong.  Her hairdresser admitted to having a headache, whereupon my friend jumped back up out of the chair, sat the hairdresser down and proceeded to get rid of her headache.

Second, You Can Train to be a TIR Facilitator (and Beyond…)

Tangible personal benefits accrue from the knowledge and skills gained in TIR/AMP facilitator training.  Additional personal benefits come from then being able to co-facilitate (trade sessions) with another facilitator.  This opens the door to countless gains to be had.

Many of us, whether we are doing this work as our profession, or as a sideline, find it endlessly rewarding and uplifting.

TIR and Life Stress Reduction Facilitator Training

Below is an outline of the whole training line-up.

For trainings offered by me and to register if you like,, see:

 http://www.appliedmetapsychology.org/professional-training/meet-the-trainers/marian-volkman/

Our students often comment on the rich, deep experience provided by our intensive, short training workshops.  Each includes:

  • Theoretical basics of the subject being taught
  • Exercises to enhance professional skills
  • A strong emphasis on applicability
  • The opportunity to practice actual techniques

As a result, our workshop graduates often report an immediate surge in effectiveness and satisfaction in their work.

These trainings give you powerful tools, whether you work primarily with clients suffering the effects of traumatic stress, or clients with other life issues.  In either case for optimum benefit for you and your clients we recommend that you plan to take all three of the workshops covered below.  After just one workshop you will have new tools to put to use.  After all three you will have:

  • A broad array of tools
  • Increased certainty on how to use them for best results
  • A good grounding in how to do detailed case plans for clients
  • The ability to use powerful and quite rapid techniques to reduce traumatic stress and resolve a wide range of other life issues

The Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) Workshop

(This first level training is the prerequisite for all the other workshops in this section)

This workshop covers the nature of trauma, the consequences of traumatic incidents, and the Traumatic Incident Reduction technique, a one-on-one, highly structured, yet person-centered approach to resolving the emotional charge contained in traumas and permanently eliminating their negative aftereffects in a relatively brief amount of time.  It also contains data on how past traumas may be triggered, and how unwanted feelings, emotions, sensations, attitudes, and pains arising from past trauma may be traced back to their origins and eliminated.  The workshop also teaches Unblocking, a technique that is highly useful in preparing a client for TIR and for handling issues that are not directly trauma related.  Unblocking can be applied to broad areas of life (e.g. “your marriage”, “your job”, “your self-esteem”, etc.).

You have the opportunity to give real sessions in this workshop, so that you have first-hand experience of their workability, also to receive sessions yourself.  Many graduates report significant personal benefit as a result of this training.

The TIR Workshop presents a new paradigm for effectively helping another person.

The CRISIS Schema Workshop

This two day, introductory workshop has no prerequisite.  Originally the training was designed for first responders to assist individual members of the public impacted by a critical incident It was also intended for peer support among first responders. In practice, it has proved to be much more far-ranging in its usefulness than originally anticipated. The method taught in this workshop helps someone to move from a state of reaction to what just happened to a place where they are able to respond, rather than react.

TIR – Expanded Applications Workshop

Prerequisite:  TIR Workshop

This workshop was designed to complement and expand upon the first training.  It was developed after extensive interviews with graduates of the TIR Workshop, their trainers, and their viewers.

TIR – Expanded Applications consolidates knowledge and skills gained in the first workshop and goes on from there to add an array of new tools to the facilitator’s repertoire.  New methods taught this workshop will benefit a wide range of clients, from clients who, though not psychotic, tend to be fragile and overwhelmed, to very high-functioning people.

The new techniques presented can be used for preparing a client for TIR, building up ego strength (ability to face life) and developing the client’s capacity to successfully address specific areas of life.  These techniques also make for a case plan that is more varied and interesting to any viewer than one containing only TIR and Unblocking.  The saying, “If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail,” applies at times to enthusiastic graduates of the TIR Workshop, where “everything” tends to look like a trauma.  In addition to providing new tools, the TIR-EA Workshop expands the use of TIR itself to fit more situations, moving into the realm of Life Stress Reduction, where we are able to address a wide range of life issues, including trauma.

Sometimes life problems and distractions make it hard for someone to settle comfortably into the role of a viewer.  In this workshop, the student learns to differentiate between:

  • Facilitation – applying the techniques of TIR and Applied Metapsychology for the benefit of a viewer and
  • Consultation – addressing practical problems and handling them in real life

and how  to remain within the person-centered context while doing either or both

Covered in this training, among other issues are:

  • Addressing long-term trauma
  • Preparing clients who are not yet ready to do Traumatic Incident Reduction
  • Addressing dreaded future events
  • Dealing with the effects and causes of addictions
  • Numerous techniques for addressing relationship issues
  • A simple but effective method of case planning

The TIR – Expanded Applications Workshop results in greatly increased confidence and certainty in using TIR and related techniques and provides for the facilitator the ability to address and resolve a much wider range of human difficulties and preoccupations.  A clear and direct method of case planning with increase your success in using these techniques with clients.

Life Stress Reduction Workshop

Prerequisite:  TIR Workshop

This workshop introduces participants to a broad range of Applied Metapsychology techniques that are addressed to other issues than trauma and also has an extensive section on case planning.

Case planning makes use of intake interviews that serve not only to gather data but also to provide case improvement for the client.  Properly conducted, they will:

  • Be recognized by the client as beneficial in themselves
  • Motivate the client to come back for the next session

This training covers body image problems and contains an array of techniques for addressing troublesome relationships.

Along with the TIR Workshop and the TIR – Expanded Applications Workshop, this workshop provides facilitators with a comprehensive range of methods and techniques to address the life issues clients bring..  While Life Stress Reduction (LSR) enables people to reduce or eliminate current negative emotional charge, it also contributes to their achieving enduring positive states of mind, and can clear the way for increased awareness and self-realization.

Life Coaching/Life Planning Schema Workshop

Prerequisite:  TIR Workshop

A schema is a diagram, outline, or model, representing either something physical, such as a diagram of an automobile assembly plant, or intangible, such as an outline of requirements to be completed for a course of study.  The schema may be a physical representation, such as a drawing, or the word may be used to mean an underlying plan or organizational pattern.

A Schema Program is a series of specific tasks for creating a more penetrating view of someone’s life, and a plan or set of plans for someone to reach their goals and live according to their values.  A General Schema is a systematic arrangement and analysis of a client’s life in each of their life domains (self, intimates, groups, humankind, all life and All That Is).  A Specific Schema is a systematic analysis of, and plan for a particular activity or portion of life in which the client is engaged.

Schema work is essentially life planning. It is done in what we call consultation mode, a form of coaching, which unlike other Applied Metapsychology programs, involves some practitioner analysis, while still remaining as person-centered as possible.

Schema coaching is a method for use when a client needs motivation, has difficulty choosing a direction in life, is unsure of life goals, or has difficulty in reaching goals.

Schema work also meets the needs of viewers whose lives are too chaotic to allow them to benefit from regular Applied Metapsychology sessions.

This course teaches a systematic approach to examining and streamlining the path to achieving our goals in life. It also provides effective tools for overcoming emotional charge accumulated after past failures as well as tools for formulating new goals.  A Life Plan may be devised using Schema coaching for one particular part of a client’s life, or a General Schema, for an overall plan for life.

Beyond Trauma and Life Stress – Personal Growth and Human Potential

Prerequisites  for this training are the TIR Workshop, TIR – Expanded Applications Workshop,  and the Life Stress Reduction Workshop.

Ability Enhancement Facilitator Training

As covered in the previous section, the Ability Enhancement viewing curriculum consists of a long, general case plan broken down into eight sections giving a sequence of techniques designed to gradually increase a viewer’s abilities by removing emotional charge from major aspects of living and by exercising life skills the viewer already has in order to improve their ability to use these skills.

The word curriculum is used in the sense of, “a specific course of study” since a viewer, engaged in the educational work of Applied Metapsychology sessions, completes each section in order as they move through the viewing curriculum.
